Who We Are

"We will lead the effort to eliminate poverty in our community."
—Miami Valley Works Vision

At Miami Valley Works, our mission is to partner with people  living in poverty, who have a strong demonstrated desire to advance toward economic self-sufficiency through employment.  We offer access to area employers while providing comprehensive employment support services.

As a privately-funded organization, we are able to serve any willing and capable job seekers who are eligible for our program. The primary quality we ask them to bring is a determined desire to move out of poverty.

Who We Serve

Miami Valley Works serves two clients: those individuals in the community who are currently unemployed or underemployed (i.e. the working poor) and Star Employers who have entry- & mid-level positions. The short-term goal for people who are unemployed is to help them stabilize in a job that pays a fair wage with health benefits.

The long-term goal for members who are underemployed is for them to earn 200% of the federal poverty guidelines and move to economic self-sufficiency. Economically self-sufficient people become taxpayers and productive citizens who no longer require public assistance.

Members of the Miami Valley Works program receive lifetime membership for as long as they are employed or actively seeking work.

There is no cost to become a Star Employer or Member and our services are free to both.

Our Results

Through a carefully constructed program model based on research and analysis as well as a network of over 25 Star Employers participating in our program, we are targeting for our Members a ~70% continuous retention rate.   Based on the award winning Cincinnati Works program model with 600 employments annually, Miami Valley Works is destined to be a successful long-term retention and advancement service for people in the Miami Valley region.

Dr. Ruby Payne, author, educator, trainer, and national expert on understanding poverty, stated:

"The visit to Cincinnati Works was memorable and exemplary. Every city should be so fortunate to have a 'Cincinnati Works.' Much of poverty is linked to being under resourced – particularly as it relates to the intergenerational transfer of knowledge. Cincinnati Works provides that knowledge base to individuals. It is absolutely outstanding and serves as a model program."
